Welcome to Calm For Kids

Calm For Kids was set up in 1998 by Christiane Kerr. We have grown and developed over the years and our approach to teaching yoga to children remains fresh and innovative. We are committed to the highest training standards and to giving teachers the skills they need to enhance children’s development through yoga and mindfulness practice. Our aim is to give children a foundation on which to build throughout their life, enabling them to access their inner resources to face life’s challenges.

All our trainers have many years of experience working with children and are highly qualified yoga and mindfulness teachers. We are all passionate about bringing the benefits of yoga and mindfulness to children in a joyful and engaging way.

Christiane Kerr

Course Director

Christiane has been teaching yoga and mindfulness to children and adults for many years. She completed the British Wheel of Yoga accredited London Yoga Teacher Training Course in 2005. This training is directly influenced by the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli and has a fresh, practical and intelligent approach to yoga that considers the needs of individual students regardless of age or ability. As a qualified Montessori teacher she is an early years specialist. Christiane also completed the Sivananda ashram training course in 2003 and has practiced Iyengar and Dynamic yoga giving her a diverse range of styles and influences to draw on. In 2014 Christiane trained to teach MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) at Bangor University. She is also trained to teach MBSR to children and teenagers.

Christiane created the Calm for Kids CDs for children which have now sold over 250,000 copies worldwide.

Lucy Barnes

Course Tutor

Lucy worked as a professional dancer for many years, and it was whilst being out on tour that she first experienced teaching children. She works in a variety of settings from nurseries to secondary schools, both in the state and private sector. She also teaches yoga and dance to adults.

She began studying yoga in 1995 with Catherine James, who teaches Scaravelli-influenced Hatha Yoga, focussing on grounding, breathing and releasing. She followed this into training with the LYTTG, and received British Wheel of Yoga accreditation.

She has been part of a meditation community at the London Meditation Centre in Islington for several years and cites what she is learning there, as well as her valued teachers, as the main influences on her work with children.

Joanna Hunt

Course Tutor

Joanna has been practising yoga for over ten years and qualified as a teacher in 2011. She has studied Astanga in the traditional Mysore style along with Vinyasa Flow, relaxation, Prana and meditation techniques. Joanna has a deep spiritual practice which she deepened and developed as she travelled throughout India, experimenting with different teaching methods and styles.

Upon Joanna’s return, she trained as a children and teen yoga teacher with Calm for Kids, taking the Mindfulness course as part of this. This felt a natural step as Joanna had been working with children for over ten years utilising her degree in developmental psychology. Joanna runs her own Yoga company, Banana Studio Yoga, for families in Kent . She teaches yoga and mindfulness in schools and in her own private space for children from 2 to teens, as well as adults.

Joanna is also an ante and post natal yoga teacher and endeavours to bring the benefits of yoga and mindfulness to the whole family, aiming to deal directly with the stresses of our busy contemporary lifestyles.


Course Tutor

Hazel graduated from the internationally recognised Anglo European College of Chiropractic (AECC) in 2011 with a Masters Degree.

As a Chiropractor she recognises the importance of movement and how establishing good habits can allow the body to function better and benefits general well-being for everyone. She regularly works with children and teenagers to establish good posture and movement patterns enabling them to reach their full potential in life.


Course Tutor

As well as teaching adults, Sarah currently teaches yoga to children in primary and secondary schools in Kent. Her sessions includewhole school Activity Days, lunchtime or after school clubs and teaching yoga as part of the curriculum.

Sarah attended her first yoga class in the early 1990s and went on to complete her adult training with the BWY accredited London Yoga Teacher Training course directed by Chloe Fremantle. She attended the Calm For Kids training course in 2006 and completed the BWY Module for children and teenagers.

Sarah is a tutor on the LYTTG course and runs their Introduction courses for experienced students and teachers.
